Write It Down for Mac or the web room?

Both versions of Write It Down make you write forward and delete the draft after a stretch of silence, but the web room is free and sixty seconds long while the Mac app offers sessions from one to thirty minutes and includes 3 free sessions.

The rule is the same in both. Deleting, pasting, cutting, and undo are blocked. A warning appears after 5 seconds of silence and the draft is deleted at 8 seconds. On the Mac you choose the silence limit: Strict 5 s, Standard 8 s, or Relaxed 12 s.

The web room runs in any modern browser. It needs no sign-up, lasts exactly sixty seconds from the first keystroke, and keeps the draft in the tab. When the clock reaches zero the text stays on screen so you can copy it. If the draft is wiped, the room stays open and the next keystroke starts a new session.

The Mac app is a native app for macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon or Intel. It lets you pick 1, 5, 10, 20, or 30 minutes, keeps the draft in memory on your Mac, and never uploads it. Your first 3 sessions are free; after that a license covers 2 computers for $4.99 once with a 14-day refund. Current purchase details are on the Mac page, and the free trial is on the download page.

Start with the web room if you want to test the rule now. Download the Mac trial if you want longer sessions, silence settings, and a writing room that does not share a tab with anything else.
